Web Design: Portfolios (Icons S.)

Web Design: Portfolios
Edited by Julius Wiedemann
Publisher: Taschen
ISBN: 3–8228-4043–2

Web Design: Portfolios lists some of the most beautifully designed sites on the web today. These are the sites of designers, photographers, motion graphics artists, and illustrators. Each page contains a description of the creative concept that was the driving force behind what would eventually become the final website, telling the story of the way the site was designed rather than the content it contains. Taschen has done a great job of selecting sites that present the artists work with elegance and style. Below selected screenshots of the sites, the book lists the designers and programmers names, the tools used (HTML, Flash, Java, etc.), awards, and development time and maintenance time for each. Designing a Digital Portfolio (Voices That Matter)

Designing a Digital Portfolio
Author: Cynthia L. Baron
Publisher: New Riders Press
ISBN: 0735713944

No matter what kind of artist you are, it seems that getting a job today without an online portfolio is an impossibility. Designing A Digital Portfolio is the perfect book for entry level and student artists who are designing their first portfolios to submit their work when job hunting. It is filled with important information, however most of it is very basic and will only be a review for experienced professionals. This last fact aside, it is one of the most comprehensive books on its topic that I have ever seen. From the title, I expected to find pointers on preparing images for the screen, or how to put them on a CD/DVD, etc. Those things are there, but the book begins in a logical place that I wouldn’t have considered. My Bookshelf

Friday, April 14th, 2006

This link goes to a comprehensive list of everything you will find on my bookshelf. My bookshelf contains every book that I have found in new and used book stores, online, sometimes even at garage sales. The genres span branding, advertising, graphic design, creative thought, and more.

By no means do I recommend every book on my shelves. Some of them are winners, some were a complete waste of pulp. The individual books reviewed in this category are the gems we found in the coal mine known as the bookstore.
